The past month has seen a lot happen on the camper front and very little on the operation front. After many phone calls and conversations with the insurance company it became clear that the best option was for Kooky the camper to be written off. The engineers said that although the vehicle could be repaired it would not be viable and they would not be prepared to authorise such repairs as it would uneconomical. I considered accepting the settlement value and then buying back the vehicle as salvage and having it repaired myself, but in the end I thought the best option was to take the money and look for a replacement vehicle. After surfing the internet and making many phone calls I found a 2011 Mercedes Sprinter 313 CDi, being sold privately, which had been professionally converted but had hardly been used. With only 40,000 miles the clock and many extras it seemed to tick all the boxes for me. After having given the camper a good look over, taken it for a long test drive and negotiated a good deal, I shook hands with the owner, the Sprinter was mine.
As for my operation, well that seemed to be at a standstill. Having had all the tests needed at the beginning of February I had been led to believe that the operation would be carried out shortly afterwards. However having heard nothing for a few weeks I contacted the hospital on the March 14th to be told the surgeon was away on holiday. The hospital then called to inform me that my name had been taken off the list! Eventually things were sorted out and this morning I received a call asking me to check into the hospital on Easter Monday and that the operation would be done on Tuesday morning, good news at last. So although I'm not looking forward to being operated on, I'm pleased that in a few days time the operation will be over and I can look forward to recovering and getting back on the road in my new camper which I have nicknamed 'TC'. Hopefully the rest of the year will be a lot better than the few months have been.
It seems I've been travelling all my life. For the past eight years I've been following a simple, nomadic lifestyle, living and traveling full time in a camper van and meeting with other like minded travellers.
