Having enjoyed traveling through the North Yorkshire Moors and Scotland during August I was keen to get a few things done to TC. I wanted to have an awning fitted, get some mud flaps, some wind defectors and have the engine remapped. I found a company that could, so they said, get me the awning and the fitting kit, they could also arrange for it to be fitted by a local workshop, I ordered the parts and booked TC in for the work to be done. In the meantime I went to a Mercedes commercial centre in Milton Keynes to buy the mud flaps and wind deflectors. I decided to fit these parts myself as it wasn’t that difficult. The next thing on the list was the engine remapping which I arranged with a company that had a mobile service. I met them in Bedford where they spent three hours reprogramming TC’s ECU. I now have 170 BHP and the torque increased to 340. This upgrade would give me better performance and an improvement in fuel consumption, hopefully.
In the end the company suppling the awning couldn’t deliver, but I managed to get the other jobs done. The first week of September flew by and I was keen to get down to Dargate near Canterbury where I had arranged for an MOT and service to be done before heading over the channel and down to Italy. I had the MOT and service done but the front brakes needed attention, the discs were corroded and needed replacing. Fortunately the garage could carry out the work straight away, so no problems. With TC ready to roll I booked a ferry to Calais.
The ferry took me across to France on the 10th and I spent two weeks traveling through France, Switzerland and Italy, free camping each night. I arrived back in the Castelli area of Rome on the 25th where I intended to spend a couple of weeks with my ex-partner Niki and where I would have a control at the hospital following my prostate operation earlier this year. If all goes well at the hospital I will head off to Spain and Portugal around the 8th of October for the winter months.
It seems I've been travelling for most of my life.
