A grey miserable day after a rainy night, made sadder as I set off on my own this morning. It was obvious after four days of riding that the riding styles and speed of riding were very different between us. I have never ridden with anyone else before and although I wouldn't consider myself a fast rider, averaging only 7 or 8 kmh is far too slow for me. I had to constantly stop to allow the catch-up which meant I could never get into a cycling rhythm.
We parted in Arnhem and continued on our separate ways. I spent awhile looking around Arnhem before setting off towards Emmerich where I found a small campsite a few kilometres away from the centre and settled down on my own having ridden 56 kilometres, equaling the best days ride of the week, but having taken less than half the time. The campsite was really set up just for motorhomes and caravans, but the owners kindly let me pitch my tent in their garden, a great spot even if it did rain all night.
Despite the weather I enjoyed the day's ride passing peaceful countryside, a strange Mammoth and a wrecked car.
It seems I've been travelling all my life. For the past eight years I've been following a simple, nomadic lifestyle, living and traveling full time in a camper van and meeting with other like minded travellers.
