Having said goodbye to Tom & Fran I set off towards Szolnok where I had arranged to meet up with friends that I'd met last year while cycling along the River Danube. I'd timed it just right, it turned out to be the 9th annual Mayfly Festival weekend. Apparently the origins of the Mayfly can be traced back to this particular area of Hungary.
The streets were full of people, especially in the evenings when a number of live bands played a wide cross section of music, from Rock & Roll to classical, from Jazz & Blues to folk, it was fun to have been in Szolnok over the three festival days.
I also managed to get in a 45 kilometre bike ride, the longest ride I have had in months and a visit to a local swimming pool and spa. The spa water was 37C and after spending a few hours there I looked more like a prune, I was super clean though.
I expected to meet up with Tom & Fran this afternoon but I received a message to say they had got bored with Budapest after a day and had moved on to Romania, so it looks like I'm back to travelling on my own again. Maybe we will meet up again somewhere along the road, who knows.
I'm only about 140 kilometres from the Romanian border so that's where I'll head for next. I'll take it nice and easy, crossing the country to Constanta on the Black Sea.
It seems I've been travelling all my life. For the past eight years I've been following a simple, nomadic lifestyle full time touring in a camper van and meeting with other like minded travellers.
